- Summary
Based in Washington D.C., the Colon Cancer Alliance (CCA) is the oldest and largest national patient advocacy organization dedicated to ending the suffering caused by colon cancer. In order to increase rates of screening and survivorship, the CCA provides patient support, public education, supports research and conducts advocacy work across America.
CCA had been using the Convio TeamRaiser platform to coordinate their annual run/walk, the Undy 5000, a run/walk where individuals race in their boxers to draw attention to where colon cancer occurs. The Undy 5000 has expanded from a few cities at its launch in 2008 to fourteen cities in 2011. CCA worked with Firefly to improve the design, layout and communications strategy for each local event.
- Problem
The Undy 5000’s site was not up to CCA’s standards. The design did not match their organizational brand and the cluttered layout made it difficult for users to navigate common links including where to register, donate or manage a racer profile page.
- Solution
Firefly designed a professional and easy-to-use homepage for the 2011 Undy 5000 that was consistent with their organizational visual identity. On the website homepage, we highlighted important information for racers and supporters including a description of the event, locations of events, and how to participate, donate, and login. On individual event greeting pages, the new layout remained consistent, but the content highlighted key city-specific information on the event including the dollar amount raised and the top fundraisers in that host city. Firefly also added a slideshow on the site to highlight corporate sponsors whose logos previously took up a lot key visual space on the website. The result? A beautiful visual site that is consistent across all fourteen city-specific event pages that stream live fundraising data and are easy to update.
The CCA staff have received great feedback from users who are loving the new Undy 5000 site design and layout. One user even said: “When I saw the new design, it gave me goosebumps.”
