The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life for everyone affected by multiple sclerosis (MS). MSAA provides ongoing support and direct services to individuals with MS and the people close to them. MSAA also serves to promote greater understanding of the needs and challenges of those who face physical obstacles. MSAA was using Convio’s Luminate Online platform for online donations. They wanted to add mobile giving functionality and turned to Firefly to help them with this new technical frontier.
- Problem
MSAA had added a mobile app (My MS Manager) to their online tool set and felt ready to add other mobile functionality. They were very familiar with the Luminate Online products, but needed a partner to create, test, and implement mobile-ready versions of their main donation page and 3 donation forms. Firefly had the right mix of expertise and innovation for this project. We knew that developing applications for secure transactions via mobile device can be a challenge, so we created a realistic project plan that reflected the extra testing time we needed to get everything working correctly.
- Solution
We began by gathering the client specifications for all components – the mobile-friendly wrapper, landing page, three donation forms, confirmation pages and autoresponders. The Firefly team used our experience with API development to create the components in the Convio system. Once the pages and forms were built, we needed to test the functionality across all four of the most used mobile platforms (Apple iPhone, Blackberry RIM, Android/Google, Windows Mobile). Firefly found a program that made short work of testing the pages and forms. Now, supporters can donate securely anywhere – adding an important new channel to the MSAA fundraising programs.
